What is your favorite part of working at The Bureaus, Inc.?

Definitely the people! Our team has been with us through thick and thin. The people are what make up our organization and I am so impressed with the resiliency of our staff and how well they adapt to changes, particularly the last year and a half. The effects of the pandemic have made the last year and a half very different and has brought its own difficulties, but our staff has persevered and made it all possible!

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

Regulation F has my attention. Preparation will be the key to ensuring that the industry and our company have a smooth transition.

What industry change do you predict over the next 5 years?

There are so many changes every year. The biggest change I think we all would like to see in the collections industry is a nice rebound after the Covid-19 pandemic. I predict that we will have a nice bounce back within the next 5 years because we are due for a good upswing in the industry. I also predict that the role of changes in technology will grow and change how we incorporate data and technology to create efficiencies and lower costs.

How do you define success?

I define success by the growth of people within our organization. For me, the happiest moments in business are watching other people succeed and seeing their lives change in a positive way.  Growth is an essential part of any business and without forward movement, a company can go stale.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

Focus on the solutions, not the problems. Don’t get hung up on the problems, be proactive and focus on driving solutions. This is the only way to correct problems and continue growth.  Making mistakes is a part of growing, and learning is the next step to your growth so you don’t make the same mistakes. Know that you are going to make mistakes, but what makes you an asset is the ability to problem solve and create solutions.

What advice would you give someone entering the receivables management industry?

Be a student, keep learning, and ask questions. As the years have passed, this industry has become more difficult. You can still be very successful, but you have to keep learning and growing. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who are successful and listen to them. You get out of this industry what you invest into it!

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my family and where we are today. I have a great support system at home and that makes a huge difference in successfully accomplishing my goals. My biggest accomplishment is my kids; I am so thankful and grateful for them. They have been a huge part of my growth and maturity in life.

What is your favorite podcast?

I love listening to TED talks

If you could do any other non-industry job for just one day, what would it be?

I would love to be an astronaut for a day and be in space. There is something so interesting to me about being able to see the world from above and to just see how the world and the universe look from a different perspective.

People would be surprised if they knew…

People would be surprised if they knew that I attended the Great Lakes Naval Academy and served in the United States Navy. I also love fishing, and I’m starting to get into frisbee golf!
