Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Lacey Kuhlmann

Lacey Kuhlmann is responsible for all things sales for the Latitude family of products—the collection software, the outsourcing tool (Agency Interface Manager), workflow and automation tools, etc. She loves to horse around, but it’s safe to say this is not her first rodeo. Lacey stays in the know and on the go both personally and professionally.

What is your favorite part of working at Latitude by Genesys?

Honestly, (and this is not a sales pitch), I believe in how Latitude does business. I was very cautious in what direction I would take my career before joining the team, but I found that the Latitude customers love the products and the service model. I knew the way that several other large software companies were doing business, and Latitude was moving in the opposite direction—empowering their customers instead of restricting them to costly custom programming and limited vendor solutions.

Before working for Latitude, I had been at the forefront of building partnerships and integrations with almost every collection software platform in the industry for my employer. Latitude’s philosophy of being as open as possible is what convinced me to join the team and is what has kept it exciting. Also, I get to work side by side with Kenny Baker on every account. Kenny has always been a great friend and we have a great cadence to our day.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

It has been exciting to see the FinTech industry boom. There are so many large tech organizations that have gotten into finance, with shockingly limited knowledge of the receivables side of things. There is a tremendous opportunity for our industry to partner with them and educate them, while they are still an emerging sector.

What industry change do you predict over the next 5 years?

Within our industry, the definition of A.I. is going to change. Right now, people use it when talking about automation tools, waterfalls, and such. Our industry is going to learn that Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is a completely different beast and will be a game-changer in how we do business.

How do you define success?

I always tell people it’s the small wins that keep us going. The littlest things like the target prospect answered his phone, you got invited to participate in an RFP, you got an introduction to an influential person, etc. In corporate sales, the cycle can be very long, so if you wait to celebrate your success only when winning the big deals, you’ll have a lot of boring days.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

You just need 1% every day. I was told once that if you focus on a 1% improvement every day, you will be 100% improved in only 100 days.

What advice would you give someone entering the receivables management industry?

Get involved!! Get to whatever industry or trade association events that you can make it to. Meet people face to face and stay connected to them. It is hard to stay positive or progressive if you don’t know what your colleagues, competitors, or vendors are doing.

What are you most proud of or what is your biggest accomplishment?

I am most proud of my family—six generations of ranchers in the middle of nowhere.

What is your favorite book or podcast?

Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging by Sebastian Junger was life-changing in how I saw humanity and society.

If you could do any other non-industry job for just one day, what would it be?

Well of course I would want to be one of the top professional barrel racers in the world!

People would be surprised if they knew…

I live on 230 acres and semi-professionally barrel race. I raise the horses, train the horses, and compete on a national level. If you don’t know what barrel racing is, then you need to go to a rodeo!!
