RMAI 2023 Annual Conference Donates to The Shade Tree, Las Vegas Charity Empowering Women and Children
February 24, 2023 (Sacramento, CA) – The Receivables Management Association International celebrated its 26th Annual Conference in Las Vegas, February 6-9, 2023. Wanting to give back to the Las Vegas community while presenting the Annual Conference there, RMAI organized a charity fundraiser to support The Shade Tree, a Las Vegas charity that provides shelter and services to women in need, as well as their children and pets. The program also empowers women with new life skills classes, including financial literacy, and other resources. Attendees of the RMAI Annual Conference donated money to provide 500 piggy banks, filled with $20 each, plus 500 financial literacy game cards to the children staying with The Shade Tree.
“We are very appreciative of this generous donation from Receivables Management Association International,” said Tyra Mitchell, Manager of Youth Programs and Education at The Shade Tree. “This donation is the first in many years that we have received that focuses on the financial literacy of our youth clients who reside at The Shade Tree. They’ll each receive a piggy bank filled with money and access to all of the great digital financial literacy content on their FinancialLiteracy.Rocks website.”
In addition to the colorful piggy banks, the children will receive game cards with a few simple, finance-based games, and a link to FinancialLiteracy.Rocks. This website, which is maintained by RMAI, offers financial education resources by audience and by topic. The special section for kids features a variety of fun and interactive games for teaching children about money and how best to manage it.
“We were pleased but not surprised by the generosity of our Annual Conference attendees,” stated Jan Stieger, RMAI Executive Director. “So many companies in this industry give back to the community in meaningful ways. We selected The Shade Tree for this fundraiser because not only do they provide emergency care and shelter, but they also have a robust aftercare program to rehabilitate women back to self-sufficiency, with the end goal being good housing. The piggy banks will be given to the children and used as part of their financial literacy education.”
“We absolutely love when large groups like RMAI come to Vegas and realize the importance of contributing to the needs of our community,” said Linda Perez, Chief Executive Officer. “We love to hear when large groups come to Vegas and have a great time but when they also leave a donation, especially one this thoughtful, we’re extremely grateful.”
