How did you join the receivables industry?

I started with Slovin & Associates 18 years ago right out of law school. Prior to law school, I spent time working in the banking industry for a major national bank.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

The emergence of new technologies in the collections space is really going to drive efficiencies and maximize outcomes. I think paying attention to the data that is available and being able to analyze and digest the information in ways that were previously not possible is going to really drive institutions to be more intentional about how and where they use their resources.

What are your hopes for the receivables industry?

I hope the additional data and information that is available today helps the industry to meet people where they are and provide working solutions that can be mutually beneficial.

What is your favorite part of working at your company?

It’s always been about the people. I think Dave Matthews says it best when he sings, “Turns out not where, but who you’re with that really matters.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

My Dad always told me to work hard at whatever you do. Whether it was school work or chores around the house—if you were going to do something it was worth giving your best effort. There is joy when you complete and accomplish something knowing that you gave it your all.

What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?

I am proud to be a part of a firm that truly cares about treating everyone with dignity, honor, and respect and is willing to diligently pursue its goals with compassion and dedication.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was young, I wanted to be a professional baseball player. When my fastball topped out around 88 mph, I decided I wanted to be an architect instead.

If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? And if you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?

Again, it’s all about the people. Being able to interact on a day by day basis with amazing people who share a common goal makes for a great environment.

What is your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast, or music genre?

I really enjoy the Stuff You Should Know podcast. They can make any topic interesting and it’s great to learn about something. You can spend an hour learning about how things work from Magic Eye Illusions to Cockney Slang to how people get motion sickness. It’s always something new and entertaining.

People would be surprised if they knew…

I am a huge Kansas Basketball fan. My family is from Kansas (and I was born there) so it is something I grew up with and really still enjoy to this day. I obsessively follow the team. Rock Chalk!

Do you have a pet? If so, what kind and what’s their name?

Nope. My wife and a couple of my kids are allergic to both dogs and cats.
