Executive Spotlight with Bekah Luebcke

Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Bekah Luebcke

What are your primary duties in your current role?

I am responsible for overseeing the Relationship Management and Operations teams and collaborating with key internal and industry stakeholders to ensure optimal and compliant deployment of strategic initiatives, performance oversight, and quality of data flow between CAM and its network of agencies, law firms, and other service providers.

Industry Q&A:

How did you join the receivables industry?

While finishing my undergraduate degree, my sister recruited me to join a collection agency where she worked in the accounting department. I started as a part-time data entry operator, keying stacks of bounced checks into an MS-DOS operating system. Several of my classmates from college and my old high school worked in our call center, so it was a fun time. While I’ve worked in diverse roles in the industry, I surprisingly never worked as a collector.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

This time of year, the trend that immediately comes to mind is the onslaught of uninformed and overly restrictive draft legislation being introduced across the country. Thankfully, we also see increasing collaborative efforts across the industry and our trade associations to educate policymakers and safeguard access to affordable credit.

What are your hopes for the receivables industry?

On the heels of the prior question, I hope we can continue to join forces across the industry and our sister trade associations in advocacy for reasonable laws and regulations and solidify our presence as reputable and credible pillars of the credit ecosystem.

What is your favorite part of working at your company?

The people! I am privileged to enjoy the work that I do so much because I get to work alongside a team of smart, funny, genuine, and altogether interesting people. It is refreshing to experience the connectivity that flows freely across our organization.

Professional Motivation & Inspiration:

“The self work that you do in silence will echo throughout every part of your life.” Michell Clark

“Sometimes we’re tested, not to show our weaknesses, but to discover our strengths.”

– Unknown

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

The best advice I’ve received is to remember that whatever ‘it’ is, ‘it’ is not about me. Now that I fully comprehend that advice, which I can’t say I did at the time I received it, I work very hard to stay grounded in the fact that my purpose in all things is to serve the best interests of the humans around me while protecting my ability to continue in that capacity.

What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?

I’m proud of my work as a member of RMAI committees and have recently been asked to serve as the chair of the Industry Research Working Group. Education and advocacy for our industry have become increasingly important to me as I embrace my role at Crown and within the broader industry and become more able to see the opportunity to contribute to our collective success.

Personal Q&A:

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

My first career goal was to be a cowgirl! My sisters and I grew up with horses, breaking them to ride, learning about training, and participating in Western-style shows. Until I discovered my love of music, I was sure I would grow up to have my own farm and career as a horse trainer, focusing on cutting and reining horses.

If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? And if you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?

I’ve been back in the office for a little less than a year now, and my absolute favorite part is the conversation that occurs when one of my coworkers stops by my office for a meeting, to chat, or to work through a challenge. We brainstorm, we laugh, we challenge each other….it’s the best!

What is your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast, or music genre?

Favorite book: Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
Favorite movie: The Brothers Bloom
Favorite TV show: Ted Lasso
Favorite podcast: Revisionist History (hosted by Malcolm Gladwell)
Favorite music genre: I can’t pick one music genre! But at the top of my list are the Romantic, Classical, Impressionist, and Neoclassical periods.

People would be surprised if they knew…

I used to be a music teacher and I proudly call myself a “band nerd.”

Do you have a pet? If so, what kind and what’s their name?

I have three! Frida – chocolate cocker spaniel; Marcel – pug; and Jasper – our brand new Frenchie baby.
