Dan Parks with Yrefy featured on Executive Spotlight
What are your primary duties in your current role?
I am the Executive Vice President of Operations. I am the direct contact for the loan holders, ensuring the arrangements are sustainable for Yrefy. I work with agencies, servicers, collections companies, and attorney groups to create pathways for applicants to acquire loans.
My Yrefy teams handle the borrowers from the initial applicant call to paying off the loan. I keep us focused on establishing the relationship from the first call, continuing to build positive results as the file moves through processing, underwriting, loan acquisitions, and ending with the servicing area. Our goal along this path is to maintain and continue the relationship with the borrower; we are in this together for as long as 10 to 20 years.
Industry Q&A:
How did you join the receivables industry?
The opportunity to learn new and interesting things presented itself early in 1987. At the time, I worked as a police officer but, due to an injury, I started in receivables again. I found the industry to be more lucrative and to have more potential to continue to grow in the field.
In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?
I am watching the Federal Student Loan repayment programs as the government offers new options for forgiveness, loan rehabilitation, and closed school loans.
What are your hopes for the receivables industry?
I would like to see more acceptance of this industry’s importance to the U.S. economy. It’s important for this area to focus on this generation by educating them on the impact of a “quick fix” versus showing how long collections can affect their life, goals, etc.
What is your favorite part of working at your company?
I enjoy working with defaulted borrowers giving them a chance to get out of these loans and into a new loan, showing them how we can help re-establish their credit with full, on-time payments and a way to move forward in their lives.
Professional Motivation & Inspiration:
Share a quote that motivates or inspires you:
“Show up on time. Show up on the days you are scheduled. Come ready to work.” The quote is from my father and one that I have lived by throughout my career.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?
Treat others as you would like to be treated: with integrity, respect, and honesty.
What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?
I enjoy seeing those I’ve worked with grow to be successful individuals. I’ve been able to provide guidance while developing long-term relationships with them, allowing me to continue to do business with them to this day.
Personal Q&A:
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Professional football player.
If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? And if you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?
It doesn’t matter where I work, I stay in touch with everyone and remain in open communication with the teams. It’s the people that make this possible. I have had great people throughout my career who still keep in touch.
What is your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast, or music genre?
Old rock and roll – it speaks to me; 80’s and 90’s music was a large part of my generation.
People would be surprised if they knew…
Despite the time constraints with work, I rarely miss events with my family. I have kids who play on national volleyball teams traveling throughout the state and country.
Do you have a pet? If so, what kind and what’s their name?
Herbie Husker Parks; he’s a lovable mutt that has been a part of our lives for the last eight years. He is definitely the most popular of the family!
