Executive Spotlight with Don DiGiacomo

Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Don DiGiacomo

What are your primary duties in your current role?

I serve as the primary compliance advisor for all operational and strategic business activities. In this role, I develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program that ensures full legal compliance. To do this, I conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and develop and implement corrective action plans. In addition, I provide strategic direction and guidance to senior management, ensuring all practices align with regulatory requirements and industry standards. I also develop training programs and conduct ongoing training sessions to ensure that all employees are aware of, and understand, relevant laws and regulations as well as company policies to stay abreast of industry changes and advancements in compliance regulations.

Industry Q&A:

How did you join the receivables industry?

During college I was recruited through the business program at Buffalo State University for an internship program at a customer service company known as TeleTech. As the company transitioned to closing, it began focusing efforts on the collections of its past due phone bills. From there, a great company called Account Solutions Group (now First Source) recruited the existing TeleTech staff for the collections efforts.

I had some very great managers there that made the job enjoyable. I was able to do very well at this entry level position and then went on to another company called P&B Capital Group where I was promoted quickly to Director of Operations. 20 years later, I am excited to take on a new role in compliance at Landmark Strategy Group along with an equity partnership in the company.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

New technology such as AI and omnichannel. With changes in labor costs and capital, your typical SOP for collections is changing daily. After talking about and testing some of the products, I know there are some very exciting new innovations coming out.

What are your hopes for the receivables industry?

My hope for the industry is for there to be common sense regulations that are easily followed, show respect for consumers, and are also advantageous for companies to be able to provide that service. As technology changes the landscape, the navigation of that will need guidance.

What is your favorite part of working at your company?

Landmark Strategy Group runs its company with a family-like atmosphere that treats its employees with respect and a passion for doing things the right way. With well over 80 years of experience in the receivables industry, the ownership group values doing things the right way and giving back to the community. I like the fact that the company donates not only its time but financially to charities and great causes.
