Executive Spotlight with Jodie Bedoya

Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Jodie Bedoya

What are your primary duties in your current role?

I am the Director at eMatrix. My primary role is to work with clients providing them with the tools and learning management system to build staff and leader capability in the art of debt collection conversations.

I am also a Non executive director of Credit Clear Credit Clear (CCR), an Australian company that combines digital solutions with traditional debt collection to help organizations improve their accounts receivable management processes.

Industry Q&A:

How did you join the receivables industry?

Through Toyota Finance as the credit manager of repossessions.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

AI and voice analytics. There are some elements of collections that can definitely be handled better through Voice AI with the quality focus on the more complex and sensitive human conversations through voice analytics.

What are your hopes for the receivables industry?

That with time it can become a job of choice, rather than something people fall into as a stepping stone.

What is your favorite part of working at your company?

I get to be creative everyday and work with people to make them better at their job, collect more money, reduce stress on the job, and keep customers happy in a challenging environment.

Professional Motivation & Inspiration:

Share a quote that motivates or inspires you:

“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” – Muhammed Ali

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

“Don’t jump your hurdles from too far back or you will get sore shins.” That’s from my father about not ruminating and worrying about what’s ahead but dealing with what’s in front of you.

What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?

Having the courage to quit an executive role and start up a business solo based on an industry gap — debt collection training solutions. There was no roadmap, I pumped my own time and money into it, and persisted, doing it alone and now have a sustainable business.

Personal Q&A:

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Japanese interpreter!

If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? And if you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?

Work from home. Flexibility of dropping kids off, walking the dog, putting clothes on the line, walking through the park to get my daily cappuccino, all between meetings and sessions — definitely helps balance things out.

What is your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast, or music genre?

Music – I go to the gym each day and someone puts a new playlist on everyday. That’s my favourite. Mixing it up listening to new and old, rock, rap, whatever — as long as it has a good tempo. I hate being stuck in the same old songs and playlists.

People would be surprised if they knew…

I am a boxer (masters).

Do you have a pet? If so, what kind and what’s their name?

A dog – Cole, a maniac half poodle/border collie.
