Receivables Spotlight with Erin Gallagher
What are your primary duties in your current role?
I work closely with our customers to ensure they’re maximizing the value of our platform for their digital communication efforts. I provide hands-on support and strategic guidance to help them develop, implement, and optimize digital strategies across email and text messaging channels. This includes assisting with campaign planning, troubleshooting, and best practices to effectively engage and communicate with their audiences to generate engagement and payments. I also provide communication to our customers for feature updates and releases and provide additional support as needed.
Industry Q&A:
How did you join the receivables industry?
I joined the industry in 2007 as a collector at a local agency. My intention was to only stay in the industry until I found something different, but I seemed to find a home here.
What is the most exciting emerging trend or technology in the receivables industry today, and how do you see it shaping the future?
Seeing how technology can be incorporated into antiquated strategies. The improvements in strategies and effective communication is really exciting as we shift and mold to the ever changing trends of consumers and really how the world changes. The data that can be gathered and used is really impressive to me.
What are your hopes for the receivables industry?
My hope is that as technology grows, consumers will also allow themselves to grow with that technology too and understand it is only there to help. Agencies are not texting and emailing for any other reason than to reach you and work directly with you as a consumer.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the industry right now, and how might it be addressed?
Rules and regulations are always going to be a major challenge, but I also believe there is a challenge out there when it comes to retaining people in the industry. Building talent and even finding talent is not as easy as it used to be as work ethics have changed over the last 5 years.
What is your favorite part of working at your current company, and what makes it unique?
My favorite part of working with Concepts2Code is having a direct connection to our customers and helping them build out strategies for success, and then hearing about those successes.
Helping an agency that may not have established themselves in the digital realm find their footing and really begin to see the benefits of using our software is extremely rewarding. We have a wonderful tool that is a user-friendly solution that helps bring results and makes sense for their goals to effectively communicate with consumers and generate revenue.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the receivables management industry?
Take your time with learning the past, present and future of the industry. I think to truly understand how we can continue to improve we have to understand where we have been to where we are now. What could we have done differently that we are and maybe are not doing and how can you as an individual work to change that. Also paying attention to how consumers interact with you and understanding that empathy is the most effective tool you can use to help a consumer navigate a situation.
Professional Motivation & Inspiration:
Share a quote or philosophy that motivates or inspires you in your career or overall life:
“Be the change you want to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
If you want to see great things you cannot be afraid to do the things that scare you. That is when growth happens.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, and how has it shaped your approach to work or life?
The best advice I was given was to never stop trying to learn and never lose your work ethic. My father told me when I first entered the work force that a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and adapt will take you very far, and he was right.
What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?
I would have to say my daughter and working with her to achieve our black belts in Tae-Kwon Do. As an adult – that was tough!
How do you stay informed and continue to grow professionally in an ever-evolving industry?
I think it’s important to follow as many people within the industry through multiple platforms like Linkedin, and ensure you keep up with current trends and changes. I join as many webinars and follow podcasts to ensure I know as much as possible about the industry.
Personal Q&A:
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I actually wanted to be a large animal veterinarian. I loved horses growing up and I always thought I was going to be a vet.
If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? If you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?
From home the best thing about my setup is I have a dog bed for my puppy right next to my desk and I can look out a window and see a beautiful view of a creek. It helps to keep the environment cozy and comfortable. When I’m in the office I get to see my co-workers – what could be more awesome than that?!
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities outside of work?
I volunteer my time with a youth football organization and help keep the stats for them every fall and I love seeing the kids. I love to travel and especially love camping. My daughter and I like to horseback ride when we can and we were able to both get a black belt in Tae-Kwon Do and train under an incredible Grandmaster. I am a huge Buffalo Bills fan and love to attend games when I can!
Do you have a pet? If so, tell us about them!
I do! I have a dog named Josie. She is a black lab border collie mix with a huge personality! She enjoys her walks and can sometimes be heard in the background ‘talking’ to me when she feels she does not get enough attention… or peanut butter.
Fun Fact About You: People would be surprised if they knew…
I taught myself how to drive a 5-speed vehicle by taking the car out at midnight and coming home at 5 AM having mastered a stick shift at 18 years old.
What’s one thing on your bucket list that you hope to accomplish someday?
I absolutely want to visit Ireland and drink a pint of Guinness in a local pub.
