Honoring a Legacy of Hope: RNN Group Supports Carolyn’s House 20-Year Celebration

RNN Group is proud to have recently attended a heartfelt celebration marking the 20th anniversary of Carolyn’s House, a long-term transitional housing program that has changed hundreds of lives in the Niagara Falls community. Founder and CEO Jim Van Schaik, along with Sheila Anderson and their families, joined this milestone event to honor a cause deeply rooted in their family’s history and values.

“Carolyn’s House is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of strength, compassion, and transformation,” said Jim Van Schaik. “It was incredibly meaningful for our family to be there, remembering Carolyn’s legacy and the enduring impact of her vision.”

A Lasting Impact on Women and Children in Crisis

Since opening its doors in 2004, Carolyn’s House has provided safe haven and critical support services to 363 women and 471 children who were experiencing homelessness. Operated by the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, the program not only offers transitional housing but also delivers comprehensive support, including job readiness, education, counseling, and life skills development.

Thanks to the program’s structure and supportive services, approximately 85% of the women who have lived at Carolyn’s House have secured permanent housing and moved forward with renewed hope and opportunity. The program’s success is a testament to the power of holistic, trauma-informed care and the importance of dignified spaces for healing and growth.

During the celebration, stories of resilience and gratitude filled the room. Former residents shared how their time at Carolyn’s House was pivotal in helping them rebuild their lives, support their children, and gain independence.

A Legacy Carried Forward

Carolyn’s House is named in memory of Carolyn Van Schaik, an attorney, community activist, and director of Center City Neighborhood Development Corporation. Carolyn was instrumental in helping the YWCA secure critical grant funding to launch the project. Tragically, she passed away in a car accident shortly before the final piece of funding was secured.

Two decades later, the house remains a beacon of her legacy and values. RNN Group’s participation in the anniversary celebration is just one example of the company’s ongoing commitment to causes that uplift communities and honor the people who make lasting change possible.

The RNN Group team is proud to support organizations like the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier, who work tirelessly to provide shelter, stability, and a second chance for women and families in need. As the program continues to evolve and serve future generations, the legacy of Carolyn Van Schaik will continue to shine as a source of inspiration and compassion.
