Credit Corp Reports Higher Profit as U.S. Debt Strategy Draws Scrutiny
Credit Corp reported stronger financial results for the year ended June 30, 2026, but its shares fell sharply after investors reacted to the company’s increased investment in purchasing charged-off consumer debt portfolios in the United States.
The Australian debt buyer and collector reported higher financial results for FY2026, with net profit increasing 12.1% and revenue rising 10.7% from the previous year. The company also increased its full-year dividend by 14%, reflecting another year of earnings growth despite a mixed market response following the results announcement.
Consumer Lending and Debt Buying Expand
Credit Corp’s consumer lending business continued to grow during the year, with loan originations increasing 15% to A$510.5 million. The company also reported that collections from its Australia and New Zealand purchased debt ledgers increased 4% to A$260 million, indicating continued growth across its core operations.
The results also showed a significant increase in the company’s investment in charged-off consumer debt portfolios in the United States. While the financial results pointed to continued business growth, the increased level of U.S. debt purchasing became the primary focus for investors following the earnings announcement.
Investor Concerns Overshadow Results
Despite reporting higher profit, revenue, lending growth, and a larger dividend, Credit Corp’s shares fell after the results were released.
According to the report, investor concerns centered on the company’s increased spending on U.S. purchased debt portfolios. The report noted that the earnings impact of those portfolio purchases is expected to be reflected over future reporting periods rather than immediately, leading investors to focus on the potential returns from those investments.
As a result, market attention shifted away from the company’s latest financial performance and toward its expanded U.S. debt buying activity. The share price reaction reflected those concerns despite the company’s stronger year-on-year financial results.
Credit Quality Remains Stable
Alongside its financial results, Credit Corp said loan arrears and credit losses remained within expected ranges during the year. The company also reported low levels of customer hardship and complaints despite ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
The company also highlighted continued growth across its consumer lending and purchased debt businesses during FY2026. However, investor attention remained firmly on its increased investment in U.S. purchased debt portfolios and how those investments may contribute to future financial performance.
While Credit Corp delivered stronger earnings, revenue growth, increased lending activity, higher collections from its Australia and New Zealand purchased debt ledgers, and a higher dividend, the market reaction underscored that investors were primarily focused on the company’s expanding U.S. debt buying strategy. The results demonstrated continued operational growth, but concerns surrounding the scale of the company’s U.S. portfolio purchases overshadowed an otherwise positive set of financial results.
