Washington DOL Sets Public Meetings Before 2027 License Fee Changes
The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) is preparing to update professional license fees, with adjusted fee schedules set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027. Before the changes take effect, the department will hold three public information sessions to explain the updates and answer questions.
The DOL is currently in the preproposal stage of the rulemaking process. The department has not yet released the exact amounts of the revised fees.
DOL Reviews Licensing Costs
State regulations require the DOL to review its revenues and expenses regularly. These reviews help ensure the fees the department collects are enough to cover the costs of operating its licensing programs.
According to the department, the upcoming adjustments are intended to maintain program stability, support essential administrative work, and make the fee structures more transparent.
Professional licensing fees help fund several of the department’s core administrative functions. This includes processing new license applications and renewals. The fees also support the maintenance of licensing records and customer service provided to businesses.
Revenue from professional licensing fees also supports the department’s information technology infrastructure. In addition, the funds are used for ongoing compliance audits and enforcement activities.
Exact Fee Amounts Have Not Been Released
Although the adjusted fee schedules are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027, the DOL has not yet published the exact amounts of the revised fees.
The department remains in the preproposal stage of its rulemaking process. Officials said the revised fee amounts will be distributed to affected business entities before the implementation deadline.
This means affected businesses will receive information about the new fee amounts before the updated schedules take effect.
Three Public Meetings Scheduled
The DOL is also holding three informational sessions as part of the process. The sessions are intended to explain the updates and give the public an opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming fee adjustments.
The first meeting is scheduled for Aug. 31 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. PT. A second meeting will be held on Sept. 1 from 9 to 10 a.m. PT, followed by a third session on Sept. 2 from 1 to 2 p.m. PT. All three informational sessions will be held through Zoom.
Fee Changes Set for January 2027
The planned adjustments are tied to the costs of administering professional licensing programs. The fees support work ranging from applications and renewals to licensing records, customer service, information technology, compliance audits, and enforcement.
For now, the exact revised fee amounts remain unavailable. Those figures are expected to be shared with affected business entities before implementation.
The three upcoming public sessions will give participants an opportunity to learn more about the updates and ask questions as the DOL moves forward with the licensing fee changes scheduled for Jan. 1, 2027.
