Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Mike Becker
What are your primary duties in your current role?
As Executive Director, I have the privilege of collaborating with the RMAI board, members, and staff to shape and execute strategic goals, ensuring the association’s initiatives are aligned with its mission. This involves supporting the RMAI certification program, strengthening advocacy efforts at both the state and national levels, and fostering exceptional educational and networking opportunities, including RMAI’s Annual Conference and Executive Summits.
Industry Q&A:
How did you join the receivables industry?
For the past twenty years, my career has been deeply rooted in associations, with a strong focus on the financial services industry. When I first came across RMAI and learned about the incredible work it does on behalf of its members, I was immediately drawn to its mission and impact. The opportunity to contribute to such an influential organization, advocating for its members and driving meaningful initiatives, made me eager to join the team and be a part of its continued success.
In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?
Hardly emerging but a trend nonetheless is the incredible pace of regulatory developments and their wide-reaching implications. It’s not just the constant introduction of new regulations affecting daily operations, but also the looming regulatory frameworks that are being crafted to address emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital communications.
What are your hopes for the receivables industry?
Through RMAI, my goal is to champion initiatives that foster growth and innovation in the industry, while advancing advocacy efforts that contribute to a more balanced and fair regulatory landscape.
What is your favorite part of working at your company?
RMAI is made up of a dynamic and enthusiastic team, backed by a highly committed board of directors and a great membership. We truly enjoy working together, and it’s even more rewarding to have the support of our members as we work to drive meaningful change in the industry.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?
Embrace change, it’s inevitable. Life is constantly evolving, and so should you.
What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?
My family. I have a beautiful wife and four incredible kids. We are very fortunate.
Personal Q&A:
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A pilot. I began pursuing that path when I was younger, but life’s twists and turns led me in a different direction. I still have a love of aviation and can be found looking in the air whenever I hear a plane.
If you work from home, what is the best thing about your home office setup/working from home? And if you work in an office, what is your favorite part of working in the office?
I split my time between my home office in Washington, DC and the RMAI office in Sacramento, so I have the best of both worlds. When I’m home, my favorite thing is the commute — or lack thereof. And in the office? The people!
What is your favorite book, movie, TV show, podcast, or music genre?
Picking one book is hard. Over the last year, my favorite read was The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz by Erik Larson.
People would be surprised if they knew…
Nothing is too early in the morning for me. I much prefer early mornings to late nights.
Do you have a pet? If so, what kind and what’s their name?
We’ve had wire fox terriers and beagles in the past, but no pets right now.
