Executive Spotlight with Mindy Chumbley

Receivables Info Executive Spotlight with Mindy Chumbley

What are your primary duties in your current role?

As President, I manage strategic planning, vendor and compliance management, legislative advocacy and operation planning. As a small business owner I can also be found filling in alongside the rest of my team on daily tasks. I spend most of my time encouraging others and building momentum.

Industry Q&A:

How did you join the receivables industry?

I started working for a collection agency during high school doing filing. Since then I’ve been in every role—collector, legal department, sales, management and ownership.

In the receivables industry, what emerging trend has your attention?

Legislative and regulatory overreach can harm consumers, clients and undermine agency health. Accountability is not abuse. It is critical that we continue to tell our story and how professional collection agencies find solutions, support our economy and help maintain access to credit. I urge the industry to be involved in advocacy.

What are your hopes for the receivables industry?

I am hopeful we can support good legislation in areas of call blocking, AI regulation, frivolous lawsuits, access to data, credit reporting and communication channel protection. The best compliance helps consumers, clients and agencies.

What is your favorite part of working at your company?

I appreciate the generous colleagues who have supported my career, who consistently generate creative ideas to handle emerging threats and who collaborate for all of our success. Since I have personally seen the power of this kind of cooperation I am motivated to help this industry face our current challenges. My favorite part of working at my company is when I can help another agency, a client or a consumer find a solution to a problem and move forward with success.

Professional Motivation & Inspiration:

Share a quote that motivates or inspires you:

“It turns out that trust is in fact earned in the smallest of moments. It is earned not through heroic deeds, or even highly visible actions, but through paying attention, listening, and gestures of genuine care and connection.”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

Match your actions to your values.

What are you most proud of, or what is your biggest accomplishment?

I’ve served on successful stakeholder groups for legislative bills in Washington State including coming to compromises on legislation on medical debt, garnishment and bankruptcy reform. I was part of the team to pass Debt Repair Legislation in Washington.

Personal Q&A:

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An attorney. Then I figured out I could hire them.
