The Torriere’s continued support of active and retired military personnel remains one of Joseph’s primary professional goals.

Tell Us A Little About Yourself and Your Military Career…

My path has been unconventional, to say the least. I went to high school in western New York, played a few sports, and actually completed basic training while I was still in high school. After graduation, I went directly into advanced training and then full-time in Communications with the Army National Guard. I spent a total of six years in the military and since the end of my service, I have been solely focused on the collections industry.

How long have you been in the Collections Industry?

Spire Recovery Solutions was founded by my brother, Jacob Torriere, and myself in 2014. But I actually started in the industry in 2012, while I was still enlisted with the Army National Guard. After a couple of years, my brother Jacob (also a US Military Veteran) and  I decided to combine all of our  leadership experiences with my industry knowledge to create Spire Recovery Solutions.

How do you define success?

I define success as the achievement of goals. Goals give us direction and help us to maintain focus and momentum. The process of achieving goals encompasses the recognition of what is needed, the development of an action plan, and the continual reassessment and revision of that plan until the end goal is reached. Accomplishing goals (small and large) helps me commit to improvement, stay motivated, and create success.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?

I live by the advice: Work smarter, not harder. This advice has been passed down for decades in the military, but it’s remained relevant to me even outside of my military service. I’m constantly striving to make processes more efficient and streamlined. Especially in our industry, automation increases efficiency and compliance. Working smarter isn’t just life advice, it’s a smart principle that guides business strategy.

What advice would you give someone entering the receivables management industry?

I would tell them that flexibility, dedication, and discipline are essential for success in this industry. In this business you need to be flexible and roll with the punches as the rules change frequently and change quickly.

What are you most proud of?

That’s an easy answer– I am most proud of my family. I have 2 children and I’m excited to share that my wife and I have another baby on the way very soon!

What is your favorite book? Podcast?

My favorite book is “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki. It has valuable information and lessons about money, assets, liability, and financial intelligence. My favorite podcast is “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

If you could do any other non-industry job for just one day, what would it be?

If I could have any other job for a day, I think I would choose an interesting adventure and be a bull rider.

People would be surprised if they knew…

As a father of two (and soon-to-be three), I spend most of my time with my family, but outside of being a father and businessman, I have very diverse interests. I enjoy the outdoors and riding four-wheelers, maintaining and continuing to develop the firearms skills that I learned in the military, and sometimes I simply relax with some PC gaming.
